i have to admit i bought the book only because sam heughan wrote the foreword but decided to continue reading the book itself, and i am truly shocked! being an east coast american who has never been to scotland, i have no familiarity with the names of hills and other places mentioned, but find myself enthralled with cameron's adventures! because of the way he writes i share his experiences of climbing and descending, dealing with weather conditions, and so much more. and i so admire his wise choice of a life companion, a woman who herself is not a hill climber but who fully supports his love of the hills. the reason i'm shocked is that i have not been able to get into any other books after becoming hooked on outlander, but am thoroughly enjoying "there's always the hills". the writing is organic and flows like ordinary face-to-face conversation.
The stories are enjoyable and make this an easy read. I found myself chuckling many times. Cameron Mcneish is a very good story teller.

Will never visit Scotland but fell like I have after reading this book. Thanks to the author for sharing his adventures. Well written and a joy to read.
